Current connections for wind turbines
IZAR makes flexible copper and aluminium connectors that link the generator, converter and cabinets of a wind turbine and absorb vibration and thermal movement.
Where it works
In the nacelle and at the tower base
Flexible connectors are fitted on the generator terminals, between the converter busbars and in the cabinets in the nacelle and at the tower base.
What it has to withstand
Vibration
Rotor and gearbox set the nacelle vibrating. The flexible section keeps these forces off the terminals.
Thermal movement
Output follows the wind, so conductors heat up and cool down. The connector takes up their change in length.
Tight space
The nacelle is cramped. A small bending radius and a low terminal height matter.

Flexible press-welded copper connectors
The laminated stack has rigid ends and a low terminal height. It suits spots with little movement and little room.
Round copper cord connectors
The cord is the most flexible of all connections and works in every direction.
Flexible busbars
Insulated busbars bend to a very small radius and connect without cable lugs.

Choosing the right connector
Which IZAR connector suits a wind turbine generator?
A PG braided connector or a PE laminated stack. PG absorbs vibration and offsets in several directions. PE is stiffer, has a lower terminal at the same cross-section and suits places with little movement and little room.
Are connectors for wind turbines made to drawing?
Yes. Shape, hole pattern, length, number of layers and contact finish are made to the customer’s drawing. The current rating tables in the catalogue are the starting point for choosing the cross-section.
